From the Restoring Our Watershed Blog
El Centro Verde, ROW’s partner in developing sustainable solutions for the Nandamojo watershed, is now playing an even more significant role in the restoration process. Hundreds of saplings left over from reforestation efforts in 2012 will be stored and cared for at ECV during Guanacaste’s dry season, ensuring their availability for planting in the rainy season of 2013.
ECV has been able to take advantage of volunteer labor to transplant saplings into growing bags which will be able to support the trees for the next six months.
ROW and ECV plan to begin buying seeds of important reforestation species in order to develop stocks for ROW’s programs in 2013. The
organizations plan to collect and care for ojoche and other rare varieties which provide a variety of benefits for landowners (nuts, edible leaves, etc.).
