Costa Rica ranks #5 in the 2012 Yale University Environmental Performance Index (EPI). Costa Rica is, impressively, the only non-European representative in the top 10, and has recently received recognition in other global indexes (Happy Planet Index, Ernst & Young Soft-Power Index). Ranking so well in the Environmental Performance Index is the third feather in our cap this year.
The EPI is designed and studied by the Yale Center for Environmental Law & Policy (YCELP) and measures countries environmental policy in categories that cover environmental public health and ecosystem vitality. Costa Rica is renowned for its conservation policies and government programs, such as FONAFIFO, a program that pays farmers to reforest their land.
This ranking reflects our own commitment to environmental conservation both within the grounds of Tierra Pacifica and in our surrounding watershed. With designated green zones, sustainable features, and wide homeowner support for community organizations, Tierra Pacifica is conscious of environmental public health (clean water and air) as well as ecosystem vitality (forests and habitat protection). Beautiful beaches, stunning views, and breathtaking wildlife exist around the entire world; we choose Costa Rica because it is more likely to stay that way.
